As usual, this list only includes series I’m interested in.

Prince of Stride Alternative
Prince of Stride is a multi-media project that has sprung drama CDs, novels, an otome game and now a TV anime. A girl transfers from the countryside to a school in Tokyo, where she joins her school’s “Stride” sports team as a manager and is determined to work with the team members (all boys) to get their team into the national competition. The anime has a Free! sort of atmosphere, except the sport in question is a cross between a relay race and parkour.

Haruchika ~Haruta to Chika wa Seishun suru~
Adapted from Hatsuno Sei’s “concert band youth mystery” novel series. An energetic girl and a clear-headed boy fall for the same male teacher, and while they are trying to revive the school’s woodwind-and-brass instrument club, they solve mysteries. The story is more or less a mixture of Hyouka and Hibike! Euphonium, but the anime is produced by P.A.Works, not Kyoto Animation. That doesn’t make the anime look any less pretty, of course.

Active Raid: Kidou Kyoushuushitsu Dai-Hakkei
An original action TV anime produced by Production IMS and 3D CG by Orange. Policement of Special Public Security Section don powered armour to fight crime, but the group commonly known as “The Eighth” consists of people who are less than enthusiastic about dealing out justice. When an assistant inspector gets assigned to the team, she will do whatever it takes to put the team back into good form. This anime has a distinctly “Sentai” feel to it, so this one could be fun depending on whether or not you are interested in this kind of story.

Boku Dake ga Inai Machi
This season’s Noitamina offering is an adaptation of Sanbe Kei’s time travel suspense manga. The main character is a struggling mangaka who has the ability to travel back in time. When his mother is murdered, he goes back in time, only to end up in his elementary school years, just before the disappearance of one of his classmates is about to take place. Storywise, it has the right elements for a good suspense story, as well as the prospect of delving into the psychology of its characters. Also, this series will feature music by Kajiura Yuki.

Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu
Adapted from Kumota Haruko’s josei manga, the story revolves around performers of rakugo, a form of comic storytelling where a single performer acts out all the characters through speech and gestures. A two-part OAD of the series was released earlier this year. In the OADs, one of the masters of the art, Yakumo, takes in a disciple, Yotaro, who has just been released from prison. He also has a ward, Konatsu, whose father was a rising star in the rakugo world before his untimely death. The TV anime will continue where the OADs left of, with Yakumo telling Yotaro and Konatsu about his past with Konatsu’s father. Personally, I enjoyed the OADs. The series is steeped in Shouwa nostalgia, and it’s different from every anime offering this season.

Niji-iro Days
Adapted from Mizuno Minami’s shoujo romance manga, Niji-iro Days revolves around four friends and their relationship trouble. One of those boys, Natsuki, has an unrequited crush on a girl from another class, and the other boys decide to help him out (read: meddle). The anime has a somewhat unusual format, in that each episode will be 15 min long. There aren’t many shoujo romance story out there where the story is mainly told from the boys’ perspective, so this one could be interesting.

Ajin
Adapted from Sakurai Gamon’s action horror manga. In a world much like ours, a being called “Ajin” has just been discovered. “Ajin” are humans who cannot die, and they are able to regenerate multiple times no matter which part of their body is damaged. As one boy finds out, however, being an “Ajin” is equated to being a monster meant to be hunted down by humankind. Ajin the series has a slight whiff of last year’s Parasyte style-wise, though the comparison is probably skin-deep. Both the TV anime and the anime film trilogy are produced by Polygon Pictures, so CG is more or less a given. Sidonia no Kishi, another TV anime by the studio, has a somewhat surreal visual style because of the CGs, but the trailers for Ajin looks pretty good.
