Jamie-Lynn Sigler has made headlines with a few big announcements this month. Here’s what you need to know about the actress who was made famous for playing the role of Meadow Soprano in the critically-acclaimed HBO show The Sopranos:

1. Jamie-Lynn Sigler Revealed She Has Multiple Sclerosis








What is MS? According to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, MS is “an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system that disrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body.” Jamie-Lynn provided an interview to People Magazine and her private news has now gone public. She says she was diagnosed when she was just 20 years old and still acting on The Sopranos, and her symptoms have grown stronger in the past decade:

“I can’t walk for a long period of time without resting. I cannot run. No superhero roles for me,” she says, laughing. “Stairs? I can do them but they’re not the easiest. When I walk, I have to think about every single step, which is annoying and frustrating.



Jamie-Lynn says, “I don’t want to hold a secret, where it feels like I have something to be ashamed of, or something to hide.”


2. Jamie-Lynn Is a Newlywed & Married Cutter Dykstra This Month








Jamie-Lynn and Cutter Dykstra, who is the son of former Major League Baseball player Lenny Dykstra, recently wed in Palm Springs, California on January 16, 2016. The ceremony was officiated by former *NSYNC member Lance Bass, one of Jamie-Lynn’s good friends.

It was a relaxed ceremony according to People. Jamie-Lynn talked about the wedding planning process and said, “We put so much heart and love into it. We wanted laid-back, not fancy, because that’s who we are as a couple.”



2. Jamie-Lynn & Cutter Were Introduced by Joanna Garcia Swisher & Nick Swisher

The world of baseball brought Jamie-Lynn and Cutter together. Cutter, who is a second baseman for the Minor League Baseball team the Syracuse Chiefs was introduced to Jamie-Lynn by mutual friends actress Joanna Garcia Swisher and her husband Nick Swisher. Nick currently plays outfield for the Atlanta Braves.

Jamie-Lynn told People that she admitted to Cutter that she was battling MS about a week or two into their dating.


3. Jamie-Lynn & Cutter Have a Two-Year-Old Son Named Beau

Beau Kyle Dykstra was born to Jamie-Lynn and her now-husband on August 28, 2013. Jamie-Lynn often shares photos of and stories about Beau on social media. Beau looks to be taking after his baseball-playing dad and is frequently shown wearing team jerseys and playing sports.

Beau attended the wedding of his parents and adorably walked ahead of the bride down the aisle holding a sign that said “Here comes my mommy.”



4. Jamie-Lynn Also Has Lyme Disease








Jamie-Lynn was also diagnosed with Lyme Disease approximately 15 years ago. She contracted the illness while shooting the movie Campfire Stories in 2000. Jamie-Lynn is one of several celebrities to share this news in recent years as Lyme Disease has come to the forefront.

In her book Wise Girl: What I’ve Learned About Life, Love, and Loss, Jamie-Lynn describes how her Lyme Disease caused her to experience tingling sensations in her legs, which then left her temporarily paralyzed and required hospitalization. This event was a wake-up call for Jamie-Lynn, who said at the time, “I realized it could all be taken away in a moment.”



5. She Lost Her Brother Adam in 2014

Jamie-Lynn has overcome not only her medical challenges, and the death of her friend and co-star James Gandolfini, but also the loss of her older brother. Adam Sigler died suddenly at the age of 41.




Adam suffered a brain hemorrhage and slipped into a coma, never regaining consciousness. He was eight years older than Jamie and the loss was a terrible one to bear for her close-knit family.
