Each of the families of the slain police commandos have already received almost P2 million in donations and benefits, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.

Senior Supt. Manuel Abu, chief of the Morale and Welfare Division of the Directorate for Personnel Records and Management (DPRM), said the P2 million financial donations and benefits are on top of the housing and scholarships.

“As far as the PNP is concerned, we already processed and given the necessary benefits entitled to them,” said Abu.

He said a total of P69.5 million came from the government and agencies connected with the PNP—the top three agencies with the highest amount were the insurance company catering to the police with P24.5 million, National Police Commission with P14.5 million and Presidential Security Fund with P11 million.

The rest, he said, came from donations by various groups.

Abu’s statement was in reaction to the claims of the relatives of the slain Special Action Force (SAF) 44 commandos that they have not yet received the benefits from the government.

“We have our own records and the same records would reveal that each of them has already received an average of P2 million,” said Abu.

He explained, however, that the benefits received by the slain families are not the same since the ranks and length of service of the slain SAF commandos were also considered during the computation.

Abu added that the benefits already received are separate from the monthly pension they would receive.

EXTRA-HOUSING

Abu also revealed that a total of 32 housing units have already been completed for each of the families of the SAF 44. He added that 24 other housing units are nearing completion.

Asked why there were 56 housing units when there were only 44 slain SAF commandos, Abu said the 12 extra-housing units are based on the instruction of the President.

“We have a balance with 12 because during the meeting between the President and the SAF 44 relatives, the President made a promise to give each of those families who attended with a housing unit,” said Abu.

When counted, the housing units were at 56, but were given clearance to proceed.

“Even if they are not wives or parents, they were there during the meeting so they were included because that’s what the President had promised them,” said Abu.
