The Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers square off in Super Bowl 50 on Sunday, February 7th at 6:30 p.m. ET. This year’s Super Bowl will be broadcast live by CBS from Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
There are lots of festivities prior to the game and CBS has you covered. The CBS pregame show gets underway at 2:00 p.m. ET, but NFL Network begins earlier if you are looking for morning coverage. NFL Gameday Morning gets started at 9:00 a.m. ET on NFL Network and will run until 5:30 p.m. ET.
CBS has split their pregame coverage into two different shows. From 2:00 p.m. to 6 p.m. ET “Super Bowl Today” will air while the “Super Bowl on CBS Kickoff Show” is a thirty minute pregame show that will run prior to kickoff.
Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana will do the coin toss to determine which team will receive first possession of the football.
Lady Gaga will be singing the national anthem prior to kickoff. Coldplay is the headline act for the halftime show with appearances by Beyonce and Bruno Mars.
The game itself features an intriguing matchup with many similarities but key differences in style of play. All eyes will be on the quarterback matchup as Cam Newton leads the Panthers while Peyton Manning will be under center for the Broncos in what could be his final game.
Newton represents an increasingly popular style of quarterback. He has the ability to throw the ball, but also can gain yards on the ground with his ability to run.
Manning is a traditional pocket passer that does not possess the athleticism that Newton displays, but looks to surgically pick defenses apart from the pocket.
Both teams have enjoyed great success due to their defense. The Super Bowl matchup will feature two of the best defenses in the league in what could be a low scoring affair.
Carolina is red hot with only one loss this season while the Broncos are 14-4 including their two playoff games. The Panthers last made the Super Bowl in 2004 where they lost to the Patriots while the Broncos last Super Bowl appearance was in 2014 where they lost to the Seahawks.
