Pay a Hometown Tax and Get a Studio Tour of Nippon Animation #JHedzWorlD

A unique experiment has begun: Pay a tax and you can tour an anime studio. For the first time ever, studio tours of animation studio Nippon Animation will be held in return for hometown taxes paid in Tama, Tokyo. This is a rare chance to be able to tour a studio that has created countless masterpiece anime.

Since its creation in 1975, Nippon Animation has been located in Wada, Tama in Tokyo. The studio has also contributed to energizing the area, for example Rascal the Raccoon from the World Masterpiece Theater series who in recent years has been active in supporting events in Tama. Now they’ve realized yet another unique project.

Through the “Hometown Tax Rascal Plan” a special tour of Nippon Animation is being offered. Those on the tour will get to see the anime production process and various equipment, screenings of Nippon Animation works in 16-millimeter film, and hands-on drawing experience. The 2-hour tour is densely packed and you’ll come away understanding the process behind animation production. Payment of the hometown tax yields two tour tickets, and tours will be held twice on the third Saturday of every month.

Also available through the “Hometown Tax Rascal Plan” is reproduction artwork from the World Masterpiece Theater series being given as a present. The artwork is A3 size and comes framed, and those who pay the hometown tax can choose their favorite from a catalog of 10 artworks. Online hometown tax payments began on Feb. 1.

In other news, a collaboration between Nippon Animation and shops in Tama is also being held for roughly one month from Jan. 27 to Feb. 28. Cafe Garden is offering a collaboration menu with, among others, pancakes of Rascal the Raccoon, and they even have reproduction artwork from World Masterpiece Theater on display and for sale. Atelier Tassel has reproduction artwork from World Masterpiece Theater by Nippon Animation animators Yoshiharu Sato and Natsuko Nagami on display and for sale, and workshops are also planned. More details can be found on the official site for Nippon Animation.
